3rd Inverness Boys’ Brigade Company

The curtain came down on another Boys’ Brigade session on Friday 25th April with the Company holding its Annual Display and Parent’s Night. Our Chief Guests this year were Highland football legend Duncan Shearer and his wife Michelle. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of Queen’s Badges to four young men from the Company. The Queen’s Badge is the highest award that Boys gain during their time in the Brigade.

The programme for the badge is quite intense; the candidates have to prepare an action plan at the start of the session and this is developed over the year. The Boys have had to attend two training courses, provide leadership within the Company, service in the Community and take part in a specific physical activity or skill while showing improvement at that activity or skill – it’s not as easy as it may seem!

When addressing the Boys, but mainly the older Boys, Duncan Shearer left them with a thought as they move on to university, studying or working; he said that how you get on in life will depend upon how you deal with rejection. Duncan was rejected by Aberdeen Football Club as an 18-year old; the manager of Aberdeen at the time was none other than Sir Alex Ferguson. Whilst obviously disappointed, Duncan went away and worked hard, more determined than ever to make a go of his football dream – a couple of years later he signed for Chelsea; later in his career, Duncan went on to play for Aberdeen; he was also capped 7 times for Scotland.

Maybe there’s a lesson for us all in there as well!

Walkers 2008

Time to hit the trail again, starting Sunday 11th May with a trip to Tore Forest, followed by Little Mill at Farr, and the Conon Valley.  Evening trips will include South Kessock to view the wildlife, and the upper reaches of the River Ness.  We hope also to repeat last year’s pleasant  ‘round the gardens’ at Fortrose.

Walks are not too long –we are not too young!

We’ll be pleased to see some new feet joining us on May 11th.

Crown Church Junior Badminton - Monday Nights

As from next September, the next session, Junior Badminton will need a new leader for the Monday night sessions. It is does not need to be done by just one person but could be a shared activity. Ideally the leader(s) should have an interest in badminton and sport, although anyone that knows me will know that  is obviously not essential!

If anyone is interested in taking this on I will happily  give them a description of what it involves.
