The
life of Crown Church is centred around worship and prayer. We respond in faith -
"God is love" (I John 4.16).

KIRK SESSION
The vision and oversight of the
congregation is the responsibility of the Kirk Session which currently
comprises the ministers and about 70 elders. District elders visit
and care for some 700 households. |
CONGREGATIONAL BOARD
Elected members and elders form a Congregational
Board responsible for material aspects of the congregation. Recent
work has included halls redevelopment and new sound and heating systems as
well as maintenance. |
|
NEWS AND PUBLICITY
A monthly newsletter keeps all those
associated with Crown Church in touch. At Easter publicity and invitations
to worship are sent out to the wider parish.
|
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION
Christian education is given a high
profile, both for children and for adults. There are many opportunities
for small groups to meet and an Alpha course, run by members of the
congregation, seeks to reach people not already within the life of the
church. |
|
OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY
The congregation instituted and actively supports “Launchpad”, a
charity for people out of work, and also backs Inverness NewStart, a
charity for helping formerly homeless people into new tenancies.
The halls are well used for a
variety of organisations for all ages, each open to anyone who would like
to come. In the last week of the school summer holidays, a holiday club
provides diversion and community for local primary age children and a wide
corps of helpers.
Strong connections are nurtured with
Crown Primary School and Millburn Academy, with scouting and guiding, with
the Eastgate Shopping Centre and with the Air Training Cadets. |
RAISING FUNDS AND AWARENESS
There has been a rich history of
care and concern for others beyond Crown Church. Fundraising regularly
takes place for Christian Aid and other charities. Each year a particular
project is chosen for support: recent projects have been the Kassar Trust
(providing a good water supply for remote communities in India) and the
Highland Homeless at Christmas Trust (providing night shelter
accommodation in Inverness).
A Traidcraft Stall held once a
month, or more frequently as occasion allows, is run and supported by the
congregation as a contribution to the Fairtrade campaign.
The Kirk Session is responsible for taking a lead on any matters of public interest where
the congregation can express its voice.

FAITHSHARE
Opportunities are happily taken to
make contact with Christians (and others) visiting Inverness. Most
recently we have welcomed a number of visiting choirs, a group of young
adults from Ghana and from elsewhere in the UK on a Voluntary Service exchange
project, and the Rev. Gadalla Tiab, a minister from the Coptic Evangelical
Church in Egypt.

OUR NEIGHBOURING CHURCHES
Crown Church is represented both in
the Inverness Presbytery of the Church of Scotland and in the ecumenical
grouping, “Churches Together” in Inverness. We have a particular
interest in active contacts and cooperative projects with our most
immediate neighbours – St John’s Episcopal Church, St Stephen’s
Church of Scotland and St Ninian’s Roman Catholic Church. |
