Midweek

IMG6496

We're active throughout the week, not just on Sundays. This page offers a snapshot of all that goes on in the day-to-day life of the church.

Choir

The choir has been going for many years. We have about 16 members and we aim to sing something at the 11am worship service every Sunday. We sing music from classical to modern, Mozart to African worship songs. We are always open to new members and are extremely friendly, caring people with great enthusiasm for singing, music, church worship and for socialising. Practices are on Thursdays at 7-9 pm in the Small Hall.

Friendship Club

The Friendship Club meets in the Church Lounge fortnightly on a Friday from 2 – 4 pm, September through to April. This Club is aimed at the 50+ age group both male and female and anyone (including people from other churches) is welcome. There is usually a speaker followed by afternoon tea and a time for fellowship together. Transport to and from the Club can be arranged.

Scottish Country Dancing

Would you like to get fit this winter? Come along and find out why so many people enjoy Scottish Country Dancing. It is a very sociable activity suitable for all ages and levels of ability and fitness. You don’t need experience and you don't need a partner. It is an ideal way of meeting people and making friends.

Take the first step to feel healthier and fitter and come along and join us.
Classes take place on Wednesdays in the Crown Church Upper Hall 7.30pm - 9.30pm.

Crown Church Band

Crown Church Band is a wind band that plays a wide range of music, from modern shows and marches to religious pieces. Practices are on Mondays at 7-9 pm. Beginners and experienced players are all welcome.

We play at events that we are invited to, we also visit residential homes and can play in church services.

Guild

Crown Church Guild meet on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, from October - March. An opportunity for mostly ladies of the Church - and friends (men are also very welcome) to socialise and enjoy an evening's entertainment.

Action Group

The Action Group was first established during the ministry of the Rev Charles Smith to help lead worship services in residential and nursing homes within the parish. It continues in strength to this day, involving Elders and others who lead praise, offer a brief reflection around the Word and also some solo item of devotional music. Currently these services take place monthly in the Isobel Fraser Residential Home and in Kingsmills Nursing Home.

The Action Group is always happy to welcome anyone to join with them – whether simply to be part of the singing congregation or perhaps to help speak or perform a solo. This ministry is very much appreciated by the residents of these homes.

Knitting Groups

Please feel free to come along to the church lounge any Monday at 2pm to knit and natter.

There is also a Sewing Group meeting in the Lounge on a Thursday morning. All welcome.

Mostly Men

….has been called many things:  Motley Men, Almost Men, Nearly Men.  What is it?  It is a chance for, well, men mostly to meet for a blether over a drink at one of the pubs near the church.  Sometimes we talk about weighty matters of religion or state but other times….we don’t.  So as to avoid accusations of excess, we meet just once a month, on the last Thursday from 9 pm onwards.  There are no membership duties.  Just turn up.  The drink is Basically Beer, it must be said, but in a flood of political correctness, a Strong Sparkling water is quite in order.

Originally conceived as an opportunity for fellowship for men on the fringes of the church and to give them a chance to get to know the minister better, it still has that aim but the membership is now as varied as the numbers, anything from three to thirteen currently.

How hard it is to avoid the M word, membership!  There is no membership of Mostly Men.  You just turn up.

Mostly Women

Mostly Women is a social get together for anyone that wishes to come.    It is a mixed age range group and meets every last Wednesday of the month during term time in the Heathmount Hotel at 8 pm.

There are many other activities during the week, especially for children and young people. To find out more about these, see the Organisations page.
